The Indie style

I saw Juno last night, which is a great movie everyone should see. At first I was really excited by the opening credits because they looked unlike any credits I've seen before, but as I thought about them more I realized that I feel that is a style I've been seeing a lot lately when I think of the uber-indie-trendy.

Carlo Giovani

Check out his work. I absolutely love how he uses 3-d material in his work.
The magazines spreads with Legos and vegetables are extremely creative.

Alright, I figured out my problem why my audio files wouldn't play. The program that ripped the audio file from NPR ripped it to an m4a file which is not AE compatible. I used Xilisoft to change that to an MP3

Whatever will happen when my 30 days are up?
I don't have a new panthercard, so I don't think I can use the etraining thing. Instead I looked at this website.

http://www.videocopilot.net/basic/ae_titles.html

It had some good stuff and I hope that I can put something together... I feel a bit overwhelmed by After Effects right now.

I downloaded the free trial of After Effects. At school I could import my audio file, but now I can't. Does anyone know why this would be?

Audio files

So I wanted a specific audio file from NPR, it is David Sedaris' Santaland Diaries. There are other recordings of it that I could buy, but I liked the music in this NPR version, so I had to figure out a way to download a streaming audio file. I used the iRecordMusic program for Macs and it converted the streaming audio to an MP3. I believe what I downloaded was a free demo, but it served my purpose for now.

Update

My camera's battery is dead, but I'm almost done with the box. I believe I'm developing tendonitus in my elbow from cutting balsa wood. I'm quite sure that my attempts to make this package are the most inefficient and most painful. I should have know from last year when I cut letters out of mat board that this was not going to end well.

My Thursday Evening

Check out the light set up at the Smashing Pumpkins concert. I thought I was going to have a seizure.
*This is not my video
**I know very little about the Smashing Pumpkins, I was invited to this show by someone who didn't want to go alone.

I believe that this kinetic type treatment is my favorite of all that I've seen so far. I like the way he used a texture on the type to make that surface more active and the use of scale. It looks sophisticated.

I've changed up the colors a bit. I hope the relationship is still working. I am worried that this color palette doesn't feel as nuanced as the last one. I also am unsure if it is too much of a good thing with the front and the back treated the same, but the front is Spanish and the back is English.

Fun with Crayons

Here's an interesting 3-D medium. I believe I got this from ReadyMade Magazine a year ago.

So, these two seemed to be the winners today.

BFA

I'm having trouble uploading, but I've sent three new back options for the client and two versions of wall art. They did not respond to the spring options and this is due on Thursday to the printer. I'm in charge of calling the printer, but I haven't received the number yet.

I think I have decided to do Las Rocas and I want my colors to be silver and black. I hope Ferin can print metallic. I would post my sketches, but blogger is having problems uploading. I'll try again later.

Back of the Invitation
The client decided on this layout, but spring options haven't been confirmed.

Sample of what I'll be bringing in tomorrow. I decided to do a South American wine, but this is one of five. I got the information from: http://www.kenswineguide.com/wine.php?wine=2125

I saw this magazine today and I totally loved it. It is quirky and I loved the design.

Final Voting Poster [for tonight]

I changed the website on the bottom and the Soup/Salad bar on the top. I'm still not sure if I should change the GuestCheck title.

Brenton had a link to youtube and I followed the link and then looked at the related videos. This one makes me laugh. Chris had this on his blog too, but oh well.

BFA Invitation Comps 2

The client liked the squiggled background, but felt I needed to set the text on a solid color. She sent me this as a reference:

Socially conscious design site. They have a logo competition going on for money. I think the topic is Stories from the Field.

BFA Invitation Comps

So the blogger is turning the background black, but if you click on the picture it will show you the background in white. I bet it has something to do with transparency.

My Saturday

This is not my video, but this is what I did.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Us41NUgw45I
Stan talked about the roommates wanted ads and I saw this on Sunday.

I had an allergic reaction to Walmart

I spent ALL day looking for a cookie cutter of a gingerbread man. Dollar Store, CVS, Publix, Kroger, Target, Ross, Walmart [where I got a severe headache that mysterious cleared up within thirty minutes of leaving there], and finally Michaels. I got a gingerbread girl and bent her skirt to resemble legs.

But here's an idea that doesn't involve the blasted cookie cutter

Technical Question

Do any of you know a good way to skew type into perspective without having to distort it as much as I'm doing.

Or do you think the distortion is okay here?

Wednesday, September 26, 2007

I don't have anymore boards to mount these to, so I have to play the grade where it lies.
